Dictate inside a draft, not a send flow
Open a compose window, place the cursor in the body, and dictate a paragraph. Stop and read it before adding another. Gmail keeps drafts, so use that safety instead of optimizing for one-pass sending.
Check which compose window has focus, especially when multiple drafts are open. A system-wide tool inserts into the active field and cannot infer the intended conversation.
Keep exact fields out of speech
Enter recipients, subject details, dates, amounts, URLs, postal addresses, ticket numbers, and attachment names with the keyboard or from a trusted source. Verify that every referenced attachment is actually present.
Voice works best for reasoning, explanation, tone, and context. It is weaker where one character can change the recipient or obligation.
Use Gmail formatting after capture
Google documents keyboard shortcuts for compose actions, links, lists, emphasis, and sending. Apply structure after the draft and avoid a dictation hotkey that conflicts with Gmail or browser shortcuts.
Spelling and grammar assistance can flag problems, but it cannot verify a business fact or recover omitted meaning. Read critical email aloud or against the source.
Understand what stays local
Voicetypr can transcribe raw speech on the computer with a downloaded local model. Once inserted, the email body is Gmail content and is sent to recipients through Google’s service.
Optional AI formatting is a separate text-processing path. Enable it only if the message content and organizational policy allow the configured provider to receive that text.
