Compose without sending
Focus the message field, dictate one complete reply, and stop. Read it against the conversation before pressing Enter. Slack saves unsent text as a draft, so there is little reason to let speed remove review.
Use Shift+Enter or your configured preference for line breaks. Slack’s formatting toolbar shows the message appearance before sending; use it rather than relying on spoken markup.
Treat mentions and code as precision work
Type or select @mentions, channel references, links, issue IDs, prices, dates, and commands. These tokens can be valid-looking even when wrong, and a speech recognizer does not know workspace intent.
For code blocks or logs, paste the original material. Voice is better for explaining what happened and what help you need.
Protect focus and hotkeys
Slack documents many desktop shortcuts, including composition, huddles, formatting, and navigation. Check that the global dictation hotkey is not swallowed by Slack or mapped to a high-impact action.
If focus moves during recording, stop before continuing. System-wide dictation inserts into the active field; it does not lock the intended channel or thread.
Separate local audio from Slack text

Do not dictate secrets or information that should not enter Slack. A local microphone path cannot override the destination’s governance.
