Cursor rewards context. Voice makes context cheap.
- Voicetypr inserts text into the focused field; it does not depend on a Cursor plugin or Cursor API.
- Local speech models are the default transcription path after download. Optional cloud speech or AI formatting changes that data flow.
- The public repository describes one configured shortcut and focused-field insertion across apps; this update did not retest individual fields.
- A free trial is the right way to confirm shortcut, microphone, permission, and focused-field behavior on your own setup.

Downloaded Whisper or Parakeet models can transcribe on the device. Optional cloud speech and optional AI formatting are separate choices with different data flows.
Focused-field workflow
One insertion method across apps
Voicetypr uses focused-field insertion rather than a Cursor integration. That makes it portable, but it also means Voicetypr has no Cursor project or agent context.
Know the boundary
Dictation, not Cursor automation
- Voicetypr does not read your repository, Cursor rules, selected files, or agent state. It supplies text only.
- It does not click Send, start an agent run, approve terminal commands, or provide hands-free computer control.
- Focused-field insertion depends on the correct field being active and on operating-system input or accessibility permissions.
- Cursor has its own Voice Mode. If you only dictate inside Cursor, test that built-in option before adding another app.

This is a source review, not a hands-on compatibility test. We checked Cursor's official Voice Mode and agent-workflow material plus Voicetypr's public repository and release notes. We did not install the current Cursor and Voicetypr builds on macOS or Windows, or run a fresh microphone, shortcut, or input-field test. The APP verification gate therefore remains open for this page.

Does Cursor already have voice input?
Yes. Cursor's 2.0 announcement introduced Voice Mode for controlling Agent with speech-to-text and optional submit keywords. Voicetypr is the better fit when you want one local-first dictation layer across Cursor and other apps. Cursor's announcement does not say that its speech recognition runs locally, so this page does not make that claim either.
Does Voicetypr use a Cursor plugin?
No. Voicetypr transcribes speech and inserts the resulting text into the field that currently has focus. It does not receive Cursor project context or agent state.
Can voice input for Cursor work offline?
Voicetypr's local Whisper or Parakeet transcription path works on the device after the selected model is downloaded. Optional cloud speech-to-text and optional AI formatting are separate modes and are not part of that offline path.
Will Voicetypr submit the prompt or run the agent?
No. It inserts text for you to review. You still decide when to submit the prompt, approve commands, and accept code changes.
Was this guide hands-on tested in Cursor?
