Capture first, structure second
Start in an ordinary note body and dictate one idea per paragraph. This keeps the raw capture readable even if no syntax is interpreted. Afterward, promote lines to headings, create lists, and add links.
Obsidian’s official help documents Markdown syntax and customizable hotkeys. Those tools are more reliable for structural operations than speaking punctuation names into a general speech recognizer.
Treat note identifiers as code
Wikilinks, block references, tags, properties, file names, and Dataview-style queries can break on one character. Enter them with the keyboard, autocomplete, or Obsidian commands.
If a dictated name matters, check it before creating a link. A clean-looking wrong link can fragment a knowledge graph without an obvious error message.
Keep the local claim honest
Obsidian stores notes as Markdown files in a vault. That does not make every plugin, synchronization path, backup, or embedded service local. Likewise, a local dictation model describes raw speech inference, not the entire note lifecycle.
Inventory community plugins before dictating sensitive material. Plugins can read or transform note content according to their capabilities and configuration.
Test the workflow in a disposable note
