Microsoft’s support page documents Dictate under Home while signed into Microsoft 365. Beyond text, it lists commands for selection, deletion, formatting, navigation, lists, comments, symbols, and punctuation. That makes Word Dictate more than a generic microphone pasted onto the editor.
If those commands match your work, test them before buying anything. Confirm language support because preview languages may have lower accuracy or limited punctuation, and interface details can vary across desktop, web, and mobile versions.
Know what the connected-service claim means
Microsoft says Dictate needs reliable internet and sends speech utterances to Microsoft to return text. It also states that the service does not store audio data or transcribed text, while directing readers to Microsoft 365 Connected Experiences for wider content handling.
