# Troubleshooting

Fix common Voicetypr issues. Mic not working, slow transcription, crashes, and more.

## Microphone Not Working

### macOS

- Check System Permissions

- System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone

- Ensure Voicetypr is toggled On

- Restart Voicetypr after granting permission

- Check Input Device

- System Settings > Sound > Input

- Select your microphone

- Test that the input level moves when you speak

- Try a Different Mic

- Built-in MacBook mic works best for most users

- External USB mics may need driver updates

### Windows

- Check Privacy Settings

- Settings > Privacy > Microphone

- Enable "Microphone access" and "Let apps access your microphone"

- Find Voicetypr and toggle On

- Check Default Device

- Right-click the speaker icon in taskbar

- Select "Open Sound settings"

- Verify correct input device is selected

## Slow or Laggy Transcription

**Possible cause**: The selected model is too demanding for the current hardware or other apps are competing for CPU and memory.

**Fixes**:

- Switch to a smaller model (Whisper Base or Parakeet)

- Close unnecessary apps

- Compare the documented [model sizes, platforms, and trade-offs](https://voicetypr.com/help/models), then test a smaller model on the same recording

## Text Not Pasting

**macOS**: Grant Accessibility permission

- System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility

- Add Voicetypr and toggle On

**Windows**: Run as administrator

- Right-click Voicetypr > Run as administrator

## Crashes on Startup

- Delete the model folder and re-download:

- Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/voicetypr/models

- Windows: %APPDATA%\voicetypr\models

- Restart Voicetypr

- Re-download your model
