# Install Voicetypr on macOS

Step-by-step install guide for Voicetypr on macOS 14+ for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, including Open Anyway, microphone, and accessibility setup.

## Before you start

Voicetypr supports:

- macOS Sonoma 14 or newer

- Apple Silicon Macs (recommended)

- Intel Macs (supported with the Intel build)

Before downloading, close any app that may be actively using your microphone permissions screen.

## Download the correct build

- Go to [voicetypr.com/download](https://voicetypr.com/download)

- Pick macOS (Apple Silicon) for M1, M2, M3, or newer Macs

- Pick macOS (Intel) if your Mac uses an Intel chip

- Wait for the .dmg file to finish downloading into Downloads

If Safari or Chrome asks whether you want to keep the file, choose **Keep**.

## Install the app

- Open the downloaded .dmg

- Drag Voicetypr into Applications

- Wait for the copy to finish

- Eject the disk image from Finder

- Open Applications and launch Voicetypr

## If macOS says the app is from an unidentified developer

This is the most common install blocker on macOS.

- Try opening Voicetypr once from Applications

- When macOS blocks it, close the warning

- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security

- Scroll to the bottom of the Security section

- Click Open Anyway next to Voicetypr

- Confirm with your password or Touch ID

- Launch Voicetypr again and click Open

## Grant microphone access

Voicetypr cannot transcribe until microphone access is enabled.

- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone

- Turn Voicetypr on

- Quit and reopen Voicetypr if it was already running

If Voicetypr does not appear in the list yet, launch it once and trigger a recording attempt first.

## Grant accessibility access

Accessibility access is what lets Voicetypr paste into Cursor, ChatGPT, email, docs, and other apps.

- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility

- Click the + button

- Choose Applications → Voicetypr

- Click Open

- Turn Voicetypr on in the list

- Restart Voicetypr

## First launch checklist

After install, confirm these three things:

- the microphone permission is enabled

- accessibility permission is enabled

- your hotkey opens the dictation HUD

If the app opens but text does not paste, the issue is almost always Accessibility permission.

## Apple Silicon vs Intel notes

### Apple Silicon

- best performance

- fastest local models

- recommended for heavy dictation

### Intel

- fully supported

- slower than Apple Silicon on large models

- still works fine for lighter or medium dictation workloads

If performance feels slow on Intel, switch to a smaller or faster model first.

## If the app still will not open

Check these in order:

- Did you move the app into Applications instead of launching from the disk image?

- Did you click Open Anyway in Privacy & Security?

- Did you relaunch the app after granting permissions?

- Are you running a supported macOS version?
